A procedurally-generated based building colony sim

Farlanders is a colony sim that allows you to terraform the environment, build a base, and survive on a rough and dangerous new planet. It is a rogue-lite game because the landscapes and their resources are procedurally generated. Progress up the tech tree and build structures that you must place strategically to buff the structures around it.

The graphics and overall layout will remind most of Factorio, albeit with slightly more saturated colors than Factorio. However, the turn-based gameplay is similar to an older version of a Civilization game, except without enemy factions.

Become a self-sustaining society

The aim of this base-building game is to progress from a very basic society relying on diminishing resources to one that is self-sustaining and able to use its technology to maintain itself in a safe manner. Create a working colony, where you get bonuses based on how you place the buildings.

Terraforming and mining

You can manipulate and change the surface to create fertile land, solid ground, water locations, and so forth. However, the hard cliff faces cannot be flattened. To fix your space problem, you can mine underground and expose new areas in which you may build.

Building in order to survive

The lack of roving enemy attacks was a bold move on the part of the developers. As such, a mechanic usually feeds into the overall gameplay loop of these types of mars colonization games. Instead, the focus is on survival and progression up through the tech tree.

The generated maps are frustrating

The retro graphics may put some people off. However, its only real problem is its small maps. They scatter immovable objects into very inconvenient locations. It is very difficult to generate a map with open plains or a big place to build a city, limiting gameplay quite a bit.

  • Pros

    • A twisted take on a tried-and-tested formula
    • Building placement adds buffs to adjacent structures
  • Cons

    • Generating a map is frustrating
    • Too many immovable objects on the maps

In Softonic we scan all the files hosted on our platform to assess and avoid any potential harm for your device. Our team performs checks each time a new file is uploaded and periodically reviews files to confirm or update their status. This comprehensive process allows us to set a status for any downloadable file as follows:

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.

We’d like to highlight that from time to time, we may miss a potentially malicious software program. To continue promising you a malware-free catalog of programs and apps, our team has integrated a Report Software feature in every catalog page that loops your feedback back to us.
